FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Who can register for "Mainz kocht!"?
Everyone! Students, parents, university students, employees, entrepreneurs, retirees, people. Mainz residents: A dinner for everyone. We welcome anyone who is interested in cooking together, enjoying delicious food, and making new, friendly acquaintances.
Do my team partner and I both need to fill out the registration form?
There are two ways to register as a team. Either both of you register separately and enter your respective email addresses in the field "Desired partner (email)," or only one person among you registers, the one who will be cooking. This person simply provides the first and last name of their partner during registration. In the latter case, both registrations will be canceled if the host cancels.
Can I participate even if I don't live in the event area?
Absolutely! In that case, you'll need a partner in the event area who also has a kitchen and enough space. You can either find someone in your circle who's willing to participate with you, or you can register alone. In the latter case, you'll be matched with another person who has also registered alone but has a kitchen in the event area. Unfortunately, we may not be able to find another person with a kitchen for everyone who doesn't have one. However, we'll do our best to make it happen. You can help us by registering alone if you have a kitchen in the event area or by encouraging others in your circle to join.
I'm not sure if my kitchen is sufficient for 6 people – what now?
At Mainz kocht!, the goal is to connect people sustainably. No one expects a large table with 6 comfortable chairs. If it gets a little cozier, that's also nice! So don't hesitate – let's come together!
I would like to register alone and it is important to me that my cooking partner is of the same gender as me. Can this wish be taken into account?
We want all participants to feel comfortable. If you would prefer to take part in Mainz kocht! with someone of the same sex, please let us know via the comments field in the registration form. Our Technology & Routes team will then try to accommodate your request :-)
What if I have specific food intolerances (lactose, gluten, etc.) or dietary preferences (vegan, vegetarian, etc.)? Can these be accommodated?
Yes, of course. It's important that you specify these when registering. The teams you'll be visiting will be informed about your intolerances and dietary preferences, and they are expected to accommodate them.
Are we free to decide what we as hosts cook?
In principle, yes, feel free to browse through your cookbooks or see what the internet has to offer. We just ask that you consider the intolerances and dietary preferences of your guests when choosing a dish, which we will communicate to you via email.
Is participation at Mainz kocht! event free of charge?
Yes, it is. We aim to offer an event that is accessible to everyone, regardless of financial means. You only need to pay for the ingredients for the dish you prepare.
If you have some extra and would like to financially support the project, we would appreciate donations. With a larger budget, we can, for example, advertise the event more extensively and thus bring even more people together with the next Mainz kocht! event.
When is the registration deadline?
The registration deadline is one week before the event. However, you can still try to get a spot through the waiting list even after that date.
Is there a get-together afterward like last time?
We're excited to meet you all again this year at a great get-together location, the Kulturei near the Zitadelle (close to the train station "Römisches Theater"). There, you'll have the opportunity to meet your new acquaintances again and also meet some new people.
What if I'm on the waiting list?
To better plan, a portion of the timely registrations is initially placed on a waiting list. If this applies to you, you will receive an email from us accordingly. It's still very likely that you'll be able to participate, although we may only be able to confirm your participation at very short notice.
What if I realize that I'm not available on the day and want to withdraw my registration?
That's certainly unfortunate. Please consider that Mainz kocht! relies on a fixed number of people for the dinner to work out. If we can't find a replacement at short notice, it would mean a course missing for your guests. Last-minute rearrangements also involve significant effort for our team.
Nevertheless, unforeseen circumstances can always arise. To give us a chance to find a replacement, please inform us as soon as possible via email (team@mainz-kocht.de) so we can find someone for your partner and your guests, allowing them to still participate.
Who should I contact if I have questions or need to cancel at short notice?
Feel free to write to us via email at: team@mainz-kocht.de
What is an Awareness-Team?
Awareness means mindfulness and sensitivity to the needs and boundaries of all participants. An awareness team helps create an inclusive and diverse atmosphere where everyone feels comfortable and safe. The team is available as a point of contact for anyone who needs support or feels uncomfortable. It promotes respectful behavior and assists in conflict resolution. This ensures that the event is a positive experience for all participants and that the values of diversity and inclusion are actively upheld.
